Our Construction Management team is a full service construction administration and management team formed to provide construction observation, management services, welding and steel inspection, and materials testing to our clients throughout the southwest. Our Construction Management teams protect the investment clients have made, overseeing the product of contractors to ensure quality workmanship and reduce delays.
Smith staff is committed to timely, consistent communication so our clients are always informed and aware of the project's status. Each field technician is fully equipped with the latest technology; laptop computers, cell phones, and digital cameras. These tools allow us to develop real-time solutions to issues as they arise. Smith Engineering Company performs a wide range of construction management and materials testing services. These services are developed to ensure the project is built per design plans and client specifications. Our team is available to provide construction management and observation services for all disciplines of civil engineering including among other things; traffic interchanges, drainage projects, roadway/utility projects, master planned developments, and anything else you might need. Full or part-time construction management services are available. At any level of involvement, Smith Construction Services team is an important liaison between the client and the contractor. Materials Testing
Our testing lab has been confirming the integrity of building materials for 25 years. Whether its monitoring a contractor or testing concrete, asphalt or soil materials, our pros know that a job well done - the first time - saves time and money.
Materials testing is a standard procedure conducted by our construction management staff. These functions are fulfilled in-house by Smith personnel at our Roswell facilities. We are one of the only firms in southeast New Mexico to offer welding inspection, with high strength bolting and structural steel recently added to the services we provide.
Our strategic services include:
- Review of concrete and asphalt mixes
- On-site testing and laboratory testing for concrete, soil, and asphalt
- Density testing of sub-grade and aggregate base materials
- On-site sampling of sub-grade and aggregate materials
- Compaction curves with wash Plastic index
- Concrete compression testing
- Marshall flow and stability testing
- Hot Mixed Asphalt Volumetrics for Superpave and Marshall

- Maximum theoretical specific gravity testing
- Verify testing is per project specs and industry standards
- Review test reports for compliance with specifications
- Submit electronic inspection reports with photographs

These services would not be possible without experienced staff dedicated to excelling in their field. Our materials inspection team has an array of knowledge in construction inspection and materials testing. Smith's lab and personnel are fully qualified to perform testing and inspections on concrete, reinforcing steel, wood, masonry, rebar, roofing, welding, grout, mortar, soil, and asphalt. Our lab personnel are certified by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), New Mexico Department of Transportation/Association of Contractors (NMDOT/ACNM) for Superpave, aggregates, soils, and asphalt processes. In addition, our technicians are also certified in the use of nuclear densometers. With a full range of services and certifications we can provide the necessary testing and inspection for your projects.
