Land Development
 |
| Smith Engineering has worked with some of the nation’s top private and public land development specialists. |
Target, Wal-Mart, Red Lobster, Fairfield Inn, Wendy’s … Smith Engineering Company engineers have provided the land planning for some of the most recognizable firms in the Southwest.
But they have also teamed with visionary developers to create residential areas, large and small, to accommodate the public demand for housing. Our residential projects have ranged from 5 to 400 acres, from sprawling Campbell Ranch development in Albuquerque to modest-sized home tracts outside Durango, Colorado.
It’s not a reach to say that our land development crews have helped pave the way – quite literally – to a more comfortable lifestyle here in the Southwest.
In your next land development project, make the pros at Smith Engineering Company part of your winning team. Call one of our five offices.

Smith Engineering, thanks to the training and experience of Tod Carroll, now offers certified inspection services for welding projects that must meet national industry construction standards.
With Carroll on the job site, clients can rest easy that load-bearing bolts and welded joints have been evaluated for workmanship and materials said Smith Project Manager Jim Landfair.
“This is one more way to serve our valued clients,” Landfair said. “Not many can match Tod’s expertise and training.”
Carroll, based at the firm’s Roswell offices and lab, is a recent graduate of two courses of advanced training – the Steel Structures Technology Center’s course for high-strength bolting and structural steel inspection; also, ultra-sonic testing level I, by the American Society for Non-Destructive Testing.
Carroll has been a professional welder for seven years. His credentials include certified welding inspector and certified welding educator by the American Welding Society. He also holds a Level II visual testing certification from the American Society for Nondestructive Testing.
After graduating from Eastern New Mexico University – Roswell with an associate’s degree in welding technology, Carroll returned to the program as a welding instructor where he teaches courses in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and wire feed processes (GMAW and FCAW). He also assists other instructors with shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) of plates and pipe.
Tod has recently provided inspection services on projects ranging from structures at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center emergency room addition, to the National Cave and Karst Institute in Carlsbad. He has also issued welder certification papers to professional welders in the Pecos Valley, most notably for Raytheon Polar Services, hiring welders to service their station in Antarctica.
“With our broad knowledge base and flexibility, we are prepared to ensure that welded and bolted assemblies meet or exceed design and code requirements,” Carroll said.
“If you want verification that your project is being done right, that time and money are not being wasted, give us a call.”
